Maroon Holds Tight to 10-Win Streak to Defeat Saints

With the team's tenth consecutive win on the line, the team was feeling quite confident when they entered the Saints' gym on Friday afternoon. The team had beaten SSSAS handily three weeks earlier, and they expected a similar result in this meeting.

The Saints had other plans.

In the first eight minutes of play, they registered 24 points, 18 of which were from behind the arc. Completely shocked, the Maroon had to call two timeouts to stop the bleeding and adjust to their opponent's white-hot shooting. The team focused on playing one possession at a time in the second quarter, knowing full well that there was no "quick fix" for the hole they had dug for themselves. After some big shots by Maya Goree '18, Lexi Weger '18 (including her 1,000th point!), and Brooks Buyck '17, EHS was down by just a point at the half.

SSSAS continued to finish some incredibly tough shots throughout the final 16 minutes. Episcopal found success by giving up good shots for great shots by making the extra pass. This was especially true for Goree and Buyck who each dished out three assists in the second half alone. Kailyn Shepherd '19 was both an unstoppable force offensively and a true beast on the interior, pulling down a team-high of nine rebounds in the contest. After hitting some clutch free throws down the stretch, Episcopal squeaked by with a 67-60 victory.
