Family Weekend

Fall Family Weekend: October 7-8, 2022

Fall and Spring Family Weekends are designed to give EHS parents and guardians the opportunity to see their students compete and perform, and to meet with faculty members, hear from Grade Deans and outside speakers, and connect with fellow EHS families.

                                                      An EHS tradition, Family Weekend Chapel is a special time for students and their

    gather and hear from a speaker from the senior class.

                                                     Join members of Episcopal's Arts Department for this informal reception to
                                                     celebrate the artistic
    endeavors of our students.

                                                   Not to be missed, this showcase highlights the work of our performing artists from
                                                     across all disciplines.

    2:10 - 5:30 p.m.                 Family/Teacher Appointments                           

    3:00 - 4:00 p.m.                College Admissions in 2022*
                                                     Join the College Counseling Department and Jonathan Webster, Associate Dean of
                                                    Admissions at Washington and Lee University, to learn about the current college
                                                    admissions landscape, including changes and trends in recent years. Parents
                                                     of all grade levels are invited to attend.

    4:00 - 5:00 p.m.                Robotics Showcase     
                                                    Watch some exciting robotics action as the EHS teams compete in 2-on-2 “Spin Up”
                                                    matches with robots competing to throw frisbee discs into a goal, spin rollers, and
                                                    thwart the competition. 

    4:00 - 7:00 p.m.                Athletic Competitions
                                                    Ten games are scheduled on Friday, so come out and cheer on the Maroon!

    5:45 - 8:00 p.m.                Community Dinner                 
                                                    We are excited to welcome family and friends for dinner outside under the tents
    we enjoy fellowship with students, parents and faculty! We ask that families
                                                    not take
    their students off campus for dinner as no day leaves or overnight leaves
                                                    are allowed for this
    Community Night.

    7:30 - 8:15 p.m.                 Dessert with the Deans: 9th Grade Program      
                                                  Dessert with the Deans: 10th Grade Program
                                                     This is an opportunity for parents to meet the Class Deans, hear about the
                                                     opening months of
    school and the year ahead, and connect with other parents in
                                                     their student's grade.

    8:30 - 10:00 p.m.               Activities for Students On Campus
                                                      As parents depart campus for the night, students will transition to Pendleton Hall
                                                      for a special
    student-only evening with the hypnotist — a highlight of our student
                                                     activities every year!  
    8:30 - 11:00 p.m.               Parent Gathering in Old Town Alexandria
                                                     EHS parent volunteers invite all adults to gather at Hummingbird Bar & Kitchen at
                                                     the Hotel Indigo in
    Old Town for informal dessert, drinks, and fellowship. Invitation
                                                     to follow.

    Friday Night is a Community Night; no day or overnight leaves are allowed.

                                                Join us for informal conversations to learn more about Episcopal's Office of Community

    McCain-Ravenel Center for Intellectual and Moral Courage, and Global
                                                Programs, which oversees
    all international trips.

    11:20 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. 12th Grade Parent Meeting       
                                                 Learn more about the senior fall and beyond with the Class Deans and the Director of

    11:20 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. Parent Program: A Roadmap for Standardized Testing and College Admissions *
                                                Phil Pine, President of Capital Educators, will join Episcopal's Class Deans and
                                                College Counseling Officers to discuss testing advice for the Class of 2024 and the
                                                changes to the SAT that will impact the Class of 2025.
    (All are welcome; intended
                                                audience is 10th and 11th grade parents)

    11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.    Buffet Lunch           

    12:00 - 1:00 p.m.          Family/Teacher Appointments       

    Students are free to depart campus after their final commitment on Saturday for Fall Break. There are no classes on Monday. Varsity athletes must return for practice on Monday starting at 4 p.m.; all other students are due back to sign-in on dorm by 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10.
