Episcopal High School welcomes applications from talented students of good character who will be entering 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. The following steps will guide you through the application process.

Formal Application
Students should apply using either the Enrollment Management Association’s Standard Application Online (SAO) or the Gateway to Prep Schools online application, each of which includes a candidate profile with a non-refundable $60 application fee ($120 for international applicants), a student questionnaire with personal essay, and a parent questionnaire.
Transcript Report

Access the transcript report via the SAO or Gateway to Prep Schools portal. Applicants should request a grade report from the current academic year in addition to reports for the previous two years.

Recommendations
Access the recommendation forms via the SAO or Gateway to Prep Schools portal. Applicants are required to request recommendations from their current English and math teachers, in addition to their current school principal or counselor. If an applicant is attending a school using a block schedule and is not enrolled in math or English during the first semester, they should request a recommendation from their previous teacher in addition to a recommendation from a current teacher in another discipline. (Special Interest and Personal Recommendations are optional.)
Test Scores

Students applying to Episcopal are required to submit standardized test scores.

Applicants should plan to test in October, November, December, or January. Scores received from a February test date will be accepted provided all other application requirements are met by the January 15 deadline.

9th and 10th Grade Applicants

  • Episcopal accepts the SSAT, which is available in three testing formats - paper, SSAT at Home (United States and Canada only), and Prometric.
    • Enter our code 3022 on your SSAT online registration, and your scores will be sent directly to EHS.
  • Episcopal also accepts the ISEE.
    • Our school code for the ISEE is 470020.
  • Students who have taken the PSAT may submit those scores in lieu of the SSAT or ISEE.
    • Our school code for the PSAT is 470020.

11th Grade Applicants

  • Applicants for the 11th grade may submit PSAT, SAT, or ACT scores to fulfill the testing requirement.
    • Our school code for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT is 470020.

International Applicants

  • All applicants must demonstrate a strong command of the English language verified by our standardized testing requirement.
  • Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test in addition to one of the appropriate above-mentioned tests.
  • Episcopal's school code for the TOEFL is 8144.
  • If the applicant attends an international school or a junior boarding school in the United States, the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test may be waived.
  • Please reach out to our office if you have concerns about your ability to complete standardized testing.
Personal Interview

A personal interview is an essential aspect of the application process and a great opportunity for applicants to learn more about Episcopal. During the interview, students will have the opportunity to share information about their current school, academic and extra-curricular interests, and their desire to attend boarding school.
Visits are typically scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Families should plan to spend approximately two hours on campus for a student-guided tour of the campus and an interview with an Admissions Officer. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to speak with the Admissions Officer as well.

Please contact the Admissions Office via email or phone (703-933-4062) to schedule your campus tour and interview. Virtual interviews are available for applicants who are not able to travel to campus.

For Families from China

EHS requires applicants living and studying in mainland China to submit a Vericant interview:

  • Complete our online inquiry form.
  • Contact Vericant to schedule your interview. The Admissions Officers at Episcopal will evaluate your Vericant interview and determine if you will be offered a second interview with a member of the Episcopal Admissions Team. Invited families may elect to interview either on campus at Episcopal or virtually via our WebEx platform by January 10.
  • Vericant interviews must be submitted by November 15.

Applicants will have the ability to check the status of their formal application as well as receipt of the school report and teacher recommendations via the SAO or Gateway to Prep Schools portal, and the Admissions Office will send an email directly to families once all the above requirements have been met.
