The Rev. Dr. Craig Higgins Visits as Portrait in Faith Speaker

Portrait in Faith is an annual program that offers powerful models in Christian faith to Episcopal students.
Each year Episcopal has the opportunity to welcome distinguished guests to speak in Chapel. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, the Rev. Dr. Craig Higgins arrived on campus as the 2015 Portrait in Faith Speaker. Higgins is the founding and senior pastor of Trinity Church in Rye, N.Y.

The Rev. Gideon L. K. Pollach said, "The Portrait in Faith program is an annual series whereby EHS students, faculty, and friends will be introduced to the life and works of Christian leaders who have demonstrated, in the crucible of a moment in history, a strength of faith in their yesterday that inspires us today."

The Rev. Dr. Craig Higgins focused his chapel service on the figure of the biblical king David. David is the archetypal biblical king in the Hebrew Scriptures. But David, according to the Biblical witness, was a complicated man interested in his own success, the success of the nation God had entrusted to him, and his own desires. Dr. Higgins used scripture to fill out the character of the king and helped the community to see how his struggles and victories, both in his life and in his faith, can be applicable to us all in our day and time.

Portrait in Faith is an annual program that offers powerful models in Christian faith to Episcopal students in the hope that their lives will be informed, shaped, and inspired by courageous men and women. This companion event to the Theologian-in-Residence program was established in 1994 by Reginald E. Rutledge ’51 in honor of his wife, the Rev. Fleming Rutledge, and his family members who attended EHS.
