LAX ends season at No. 3 VISAA ranking

The boys' varsity lacrosse team lost a heart breaking VISAA Quarterfinal game to St. Anne's Belfield on Tuesday by a final score of 14-12.
The Maroon started off hot, opening up a 5-2 lead in the 1st quarter and then pushing the score to a 9-5 lead with less than a minute to go in the first half. The Saints' offense caught fire in a momentum-swinging third quarter in which they outscored the Maroon 3-0. The boys responded in the fourth quarter with critical goals from Will Cory '19 and Jared Andreala '20 to retake the lead at 12-10. Unfortunately, STAB scored the last four goals of the game for the 14-12 victory. Finlay MacKnight '20, Jackson Eicher '20, Cory, and Andreala led the offense. Luke Mascatello '19 had nine saves on the day and Bear Matheson '20 picked up a team-high three ground balls.
 
The Maroon finish the season with an 11-8 overall record and No. 3 VISAA ranking — the highest since the 2011 VISAA Championship season.
 
Notable achievements this spring (official School records date back to the 2007 season):
  • Eicher broke the scoring record for most goals in a season with 65.
  • Cory set the record for most assists in a season (46) and also finished his career tied for fourth in all-time scoring with 123 goals and 80 assists.
  • MacKnight has 162 career points and is next behind Cory. MacKnight tied the previous single-season assist record with 41.
  • John McKee '20 and Chad Calderwood '20 both broke the face-off winning percentage School record as McKee won 67% and Chad won 64%.
  • The team averaged 13.6 goals per game, the most in School history. The previous record was 11.5 by the 2011 team.
