Penn Relays

The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track & field competition in the country and is host to the largest number of participants in a track & field competition in the world.
It regularly attracts more than 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges, and track clubs throughout North America and abroad, notably Jamaica, competing in more than 300 events over five days. Historically, the event has been credited with popularizing the running of relay races, a strong tradition on the team that Hoxton, Seidule and Rice built at EHS. The Maroon relay squads had another strong showing at the 125th Running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on April 25-27.

In the girls' 4x100-meter race, Jahsaiah Moses '19 and Nina Moore '20 led Caroline Panton '21 and Regan Simmons '21 with a solid time on historic Franklin Stadium. The girls' 4x400-meter entry saw Moses off to a solid start surging right to the front and out of traffic for the first 300-meters handing off in the Top 3. Relay specialist Simmons had another solid leg before handing off the baton to Alli Boehm '20 who kept the girls in the top five. Alli handed off to sister Claire Boehm '20, who managed to hold off the 13 other entries in the race to place 4th overall with a new personal record split, as well as a new School record!

The boys' 4x100-meter relay team of Bryce Steele '21, Barry Curtis '19, Jamall Mensah '20, and Aaron Lindsey '21 had smooth transitions and executed under tremendous pressure in the preliminaries and advanced to the National Division Final, becoming the first team to advance in the School’s history to do so. With perfect weather conditions and the USA vs World matchups in the relays happening on Saturday, 48,000 people filled the stadium at the time the boys were ready to compete. A solid effort with a time that was just off their best time of the season the team arrived in a respectable 7th place. The boys' 4x400-meter team of Lindsey, Alex de Casteja '20, Dante Jackson '21, and Zeddy Williams '21 got caught up in the 21-team field who toed the line at the start of the race, running just off their best time of the season.
