Maroon JV Ends Season in IAC First Round

The Maroon finished up their season on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the IAC Tournament. Episcopal hosted the St. Albans Bulldogs, and the contest was the third meeting between the two teams.
The Maroon won the first game and St. Albans won the second, so both teams knew it was a winnable game, and, in the first quarter, it showed in the tremendous effort coming from both sides. The defensive pressure being applied by the Bulldogs and the Maroon was intense, and the lead traded back and forth in the opening quarter. Beck Goode '21 and Charlie Jackson '22 led the way offensively, and the score was 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Bulldogs threw the Maroon out of rhythm on offense. Episcopal stopped moving the ball like they had early in the game, and St. Albans secured every rebound to keep the Maroon from getting second shots. EHS managed to score just seven points in the second quarter and allowed the Bulldogs to pull away slightly to go into half up 26-19.

The second half began with a flurry of defensive activity from the Maroon. Applying half-court pressure, EHS caused several turnovers and tied the game at 36-36. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs regrouped and applied pressure of their own to push the lead back up to 44-36 by the end of the third quarter. Though the Maroon worked hard in the final eight minutes of the game and though Jackson poured in 10 points in a two-minute flurry, EHS couldn’t keep the Bulldogs from scoring, and the clock slowly ticked out on the game and the season. The final score was St. Albans 65, EHS 52. Though the tournament loss was a disappointment, the Maroon had a lot of great moments and games throughout the course of the season, and the boys played hard in this final contest—they just came up short. This team's final record was 6-11.
