Dr. Charlotte Fryar

Biography:
Born in North Carolina’s piedmont and raised in its mountains, Charlotte holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While in graduate school, she worked as a Field Scholar at the Southern Oral History Program, located at the Center for the Study of the American South, and taught classes on race, landscape, and oral history. She is the author of multiple award-winning essays exploring the intersections of race, place, nature, and culture in the South.

At Episcopal, Charlotte teaches both U.S. history and an English elective, and is an assistant coach for the cross country team. She is also a member of the West Dorm team.

A passionate naturalist and trained clinical herbalist, Charlotte enjoys botanizing, foraging, hiking, gardening, gravel biking, and any other activity that gets her outdoors. She currently lives with her husband and dog in the very small town of Glen Echo, Maryland, less than 700 feet from the banks of the Potomac River.
