Seniors Prepare for the World Beyond Our Gates

At Episcopal, seniors spend the month of May outside of the traditional classroom, busy with their Washington Program externships by day and with special programming during the evenings.

During the day, students charge out on their own for a taste of the working world. From Capitol Hill and the District’s most renowned museums, to global advertising firms and local start-ups and nonprofits, EHS students are taking the world outside our gates by storm.

In the evening, they come back together for activities both educational and fun.

In the first half of the month, seniors have participated in martial arts/self-defense classes and other workshops designed to prepare them for some of the pitfalls they might encounter with the increased independence that college and young adulthood will bring. Those workshops have tackled topics such as hazing and alcohol abuse. Workshops in the coming days will explore subjects such as financial literacy and identifying the signs of abusive relationships.

On the fun side, seniors recently enjoyed a night at the Washington Nationals baseball game, and in the coming weeks they’ll venture out on the senior rafting trip and enjoy their senior class dinner, among participating in other exciting traditions to mark the close of their time at EHS.
