Second Loss to Potomac Ends Strong Season for GVB

The squad finishes the year with a 22-10 record, totaling the most wins for our program in at least 11 years, securing a share in the ISL banner, and earning the opportunity to move up to the AA Division next year.
The girls' varsity basketball team closed out the 2016-17 season going 2-2 in its final four games.

After cruising past Sandy Spring in the ISL quarterfinals Friday night, the Maroon suited up for a battle with Holton-Arms. Because the Panthers played us to a one point game earlier in the season, we were prepared for a fight. Fortunately for us, our opponent could not match our intensity and selfless play, and we were able to secure a convincing 53-21 victory.

The team finished the year with two hard-fought contests against Potomac that both resulted in losses, falling first in the championship on Sunday 46-39 and again on Tuesday in the opening round of the VISAA State Tournament 60-46. Despite the results, the coaching staff was quite pleased with the team's heart, as they truly left everything on the floor in both games. We look forward to avenging these losses next season on December 7th, 2017...mark your calendars now. :)

As expected, the seniors ended their careers in style, contributing more than just points, rebounds, and steals in the final four games. Hadiyyah Abdul-Jalaal '17, Brooks Buyck '17, Liza-Banks Campagna '17, and Hope Gray '17 competed with incredible heart, leadership, and poise and truly embodied the qualities we value most in our program. We know that we can never replace these phenomenal young women, but look forward to instilling their passion and selflessness into the future players of this program.

Thanks to the parents, students, faculty, and staff members who came out to support our team this season- it was both recognized and very much appreciated!
