Maroon Advances to VISAA Semifinals

The No. 2 VISAA-seeded Maroon beat a tough No. 7-seeded Blue Ridge Barons by a score of 15-5. Episcopal jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first half before the Barons closed the gap to 7-5 at the end of the half. A dominant second half saw the Maroon outscore the Barons 8-0, which made for a comfortable fourth-quarter finish. James Greene ‘21 and Jack Hines ‘21 paced the offense with three goals each and Victor Salcedo ‘22 was dominant at the face-off X, winning 13 of 19 draws. Salcedo also added three points (2g/1a) and eight ground balls for an overall outstanding game. Willem Albert ‘22, Bear White ‘21 and Caulley Deringer ‘23 also each added two goals. The midfield unit of Tanner Lewis ’23, Jack Dupuis ‘23 and Ward Lilly ‘22 provided important minutes in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Samir McElroy ‘22 played outstanding in the goal in the second half as he and the defense shut the door by pitching a shutout for the final 24 minutes. His key save on man down early in the third quarter prevented the Barons from closing the lead to one and gave the momentum the Maroon needed to pull away.
