Varsity Girls Hold Onto Lead to Defeat Bullis

The team first faced off against Bullis on Tuesday evening, a formidable ISL team rooted in size, strength, and athleticism. EHS was able to earn a 54-47 win over the Bulldogs in a rousing demonstration of teamwork and selflessness.

On the jump ball, the Maroon opened up the scoring; Cayla Williams '21 tipped a pass to Maya Thompson '20 who found Ryan Shepherd '21 streaking toward the rim for an easy layup. Moments later, Williams hit Thompson in the half court for a deep trifecta to extend Episcopal's lead. Despite the team's suffocating full-court press, the talented Bulldogs responded with a 16-5 run to end the first stanza. EHS knew they'd have to clean up their rotations to find success down the stretch, so they recommitted to defense and rebounding in quarter two. Lucy Dixon '21 truly embodied excellence in these categories, pulling down half of her 10 total rebounds in that stanza. On the offensive end, Marian Turnbull '22 executed with poise and an impeccable shot selection to frustrate the opponent. At the half, Episcopal trailed 24-25.

Shepherd opened the third period with an and-one play and a layup to put the Maroon up two. A minute later, Dymin Gerow '20 managed a perfect post entry pass to Williams for another exciting bucket. Haley Sabol '20 found her rhythm in the half court by drawing fouls and finishing from the foul line as EHS continued to push the tempo on its typically controlled opponent. A Williams-to-Turnbull skip led to an exciting three by the sophomore point guard while a Dixon-to-Thompson pass in the half court extended Episcopal's lead by six. Despite a late surge from the well-coached Bulldogs, EHS was able to run away with a 54-47 win.
