Varsity Boys Keep Hold on Huskies

On Saturday afternoon the boys' varsity basketball team hosted the Flint Hill Huskies for another important non-conference contest. The weather forecast forced the game to be moved to 2:00 p.m., but we were still able to have strong support from our home crowd.

The first quarter was  back-and-forth affair with each team trying to play an up-tempo style. There were three lead changes in the opening period, but EHS held a slight advantage, 15-14, as the clock ran out after the first eight minutes of play. The Maroon began to build a more comfortable lead in the second quarter, but foul trouble and a few missed opportunities allowed the Huskies to keep the game close. By the end of the period, four EHS players had two or more personal fouls. Fortunately the players off the bench stepped up their game, and EHS led Flint Hill 36-31 at the half.

EHS played a strong third quarter, and connected on four three-point shots in the period to extend the lead. Strong contributions from several members of the team gave the Maroon some breathing room, or so we thought! By the fourth quarter Episcopal had tied their largest lead of the game (10 points) but a late flurry from Flint Hill behind a couple of strong individual performances cut the margin to just two points. The Huskies had one final possession to try and tie or go ahead with a three, but the mid-range runner went long off the rim and Episcopal pulled down the final rebound of the game. EHS defeated Flint Hill by a final score of 72-70. The Maroon improve to 9-4 overall.
