Holton defeats EHS in three-inning game

The Girls Varsity Softball Team lost their first divisional game to Holton-Arms on Tuesday in a 4-24 run game.
Flora French '21 was on the mound, pitching her second game of the season. She worked hard and stayed tough in the circle, despite Holton’s consistent hitters. French threw well over 100 pitches in the short three-inning game before Camilla Zambrana '21 was pulled in from right field to take over and give French a rest. This was Zambrana’s first game ever on the mound and handled herself well. Hannah Boone '22 worked hard behind the plate, chasing pitches and trying to stop runners from 3rd from stealing home. French and Boone had an awesome defensive play in the 2nd inning when they caught a girl trying to steal home on a pass ball.

In the bottom of the first inning, Nicole Carino ’19 and Tiffany Stowers ’20 each drew a walk to get on base. Carino stole second base on a pass ball, getting into scoring position when French came to the plate. Carino used her speed to score from second on a nice single hit by French. Halsey Ziglar ’19 then hit a single through the infield to score Stowers. Ziglar stole second on a pass ball, but was unfortunately left on base at the end of the inning. With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Carino tried to start a rally with a hard shot up the middle. Miraculously, Holton’s pitcher managed to stop the ball from leaving the infield, and Carino was out at first. Episcopal was not able to put together any other hits that inning. Things were looking up offensively in the bottom of the third inning when Natasha Wanjiru '20 started off with a hard hit single to 3rd. Then Stowers and French were each selective at the plate, and drew walks to load the bases. Next, Ziglar came to the plate and hit a solid double, scoring Wanjiru and Stowers. Ziglar led the team offensively, getting 2 hits in 2 at bats, and had 3 RBIs.
