Softball Falls to GDS

The girls varsity softball team faced a tough loss against Georgetown Day.
It was a cold and rainy afternoon. GDS came out strong in the first inning, scoring 9 runs off several hits that challenged the defense to make good plays. GDS managed to find holes in the infield and were aggressive on the bases.

Flora French ’21 was on the mound, pitching her first game this season. Despite the awful weather and the constant hits from GDS, French maintained a smile on her face and a great attitude throughout the entire game. She played her position well and made several defensive saves throughout the innings. Hannah Boone ’22 was behind the plate. She did a great job blocking pitches and chasing after pass balls.

In the second inning, Halsey Ziglar ’19 scored what was to be the team’s only run of the game. She led off the inning with a hard hit single through the infield. Helen Chen ’21 drew a walk to advance Ziglar to second. Camila Zambrana ’21 also drew a walk, which advanced Ziglar to 3rd. Bases were loaded with Amy Ma ’21 stepping up to bat. She was eager to hit, but unfortunately didn’t get the chance as she was hit by a pitch. Her advance to 1st base, however, did manage score Ziglar.

In the 3rd inning, Tiffany Stowers ’20 led off with a solid hit to centerfield. Flora French ’21 followed with a hard hit grounder to move Stowers to 2nd. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t put together any more hits that inning and the game ended with a score of 1-17 in just 3 innings. Stowers was 2 for 2, and had one stolen base on a pass ball.
