Maroon Slams Sidwell

Knowing they'd need to put together a tough, united effort, they began collectively preparing mentally for the Sidwell game the day before. For the team to upset the #2 team in the ISL (and avenge a 37 point loss just ten days prior), they'd need to believe in themselves and in their teammates to make it happen.
In the first half, the two teams wrestled back and forth for the lead. Although the Quakers found their offensive rhythm in the first quarter (including three consecutive threes), Episcopal focused in on the game plan and remained calm. Dymin Gerow '20 gave Sidwell fits on both ends, striking from every corner of the court while frustrating them with her pressure at the top of the zone. Hannah Boone 22 came off the bench and gave the Maroon big minutes and hit an important three-pointer at the end of the second stanza to swing the momentum in Episcopal's favor. At the half, the score was 29-32 in favor of Sidwell.

In the final 16 minutes, EHS turned up the intensity tenfold. The front court duo of Haley Sabol '20 and Lucy Dixon '21 disallowed any attacks from the perimeter (a key component of Sidwell's offensive plan) while Mary Ives Giblin '19 and Maya Thompson '20 solidified the defensive stronghold on the wings. Episcopal held Quakers to just seven points in the third quarter and used a balanced offensive attack to record 18 of their own (including two exciting trifectas from Sabol). In the final period, Gerow continued to wreak havoc everywhere on the floor, and her drives forced a slew of Quaker frustration fouls. Late in the fourth, Isabel Schneider '21 pulled down a critical rebound and sank a pair of free throws to extend the team's lead- and whip her teammates into a frenzy. With the clock dwindling, the stands erupted as they watched the Maroon dance away with a 66-59 victory over the stunned Quakers.
