Boys Varsity Basketball Beats Virginia Challenger Benedictine

The day after a thrilling EHS victory over Bullis, the team traveled to Richmond, VA to participate in a one-day basketball showcase, The Virginia Challenge.
This event has four teams from Northern Virginia face four teams from Central Virginia, and it is a great day of basketball. This year, Episcopal matched with the Benedictine Cadets, a school with a strong basketball tradition. While this year’s Benedic-team has had some ups and downs in terms of wins and losses, the Maroon knew they would face a team that would play hard for 32 minutes.

In the first half, Benedictine challenged Episcopal on both ends of the floor, and after 16 minutes of play the visiting team from Alexandria had just a three-point advantage, 33-30. The second half was much better for the Maroon, and particularly the fourth quarter. With EHS clinging to a si-point lead, the team moved to a full-court trapping defense that forced the Cadets in to some turnovers, allowing EHS to score easy baskets in transition. At one point in the final period, the Maroon led by 16 points. All 12 healthy players saw action in the final period, and although Benedictine continued to fight until the final buzzer, the Maroon earned the victory by a score of 73-63. With the win, Episcopal improved to 10-5 this season.
