Varsity Basketball Defeats Georgetown Prep

EHS traveled to Maryland to face the Georgetown Prep Little Hoyas.
This was an important early season IAC matchup as both teams entered the contest with 1-1 conference records. EHS jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and the home team was forced to call a timeout. The Little Hoyas eventually found a way to score the ball, but the Maroon were efficient on the offense end as well. EHS led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was almost a mirror image of the first eight minutes, and the Maroon once again scored 18 points in the period. Georgetown Prep continued to play hard, but they trailed at the half by a score of 36-24.

The Maroon offense began to stall in the third quarter, and shots weren’t falling. The team’s man-to-man defense was solid, but Prep was able to cut in to the lead, and by the end of the third quarter the Maroon advantage was only seven points, 48-41. The fourth quarter was an exciting eight minutes of basketball. Episcopal went back up by double digits, but the Little Hoyas quickly responded with some hot three-point shooting. Some missed shots and a couple of turnovers by EHS allowed Georgetown Prep to wipe away the Maroon lead, and in fact the home team took a one point advantage late in the game. Episcopal was able to battle back, regain the lead, and then get a few key defensive stops in the final minute of play. Episcopal held off the late Georgetown Prep rally, and the Maroon won the game by a final score of 65-62.
