Maroon Squash is on Fire!

The girls varsity squash team faced NCS at their home club, Squash on Fire.
In our last match of 2018, the team really burned the competition. The evens kicked off the scoring with the Maroon up 5-0, having dropped but two games. Of note, Karla Domingues '20 played a very competitive, skillful match, but it was her smart play that won out. Lindsey Harrison '19, whose power shot is a force to be reckoned with, mixed it up and, surprisingly but most effectively, threw in some soft shots to throw off her opponent. Lilly Schmachtenberger '19 made good use of her deep serve and her wicked boast. Lily Dolan '20 also benefited from smart play after winning her first game 12-10. Neely Holt's '20 serve returns were beautifully executed rails. In addition, she hung on in a few points and rather than concede defeat, dug the ball out of the corners and surprised even herself with some fantastic winning shots.

Next up were the odds: Mac Faughnan '19 did a great job of finding the open court; Lilly Whitner's '19 match was almost over before it started; Trudy Holmes '19 was relentless with her bruiser backhand, and Cooper Redd '20 won with great serves and disguised rail shots. Rounding out the wins was Grace Moog '19, winning 11-9 in the fifth. Finally, Babe Ruth didn't hit a home rum every time and today just wasn't the day for Nicole Cariño '19 and Katherine Schwartz '19, but like Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow's another day!"
