Boys Defeat Maret, Advance to Tournament Finals

Episcopal faced the Maret School from Washington, D.C., in the semifinals of the Sleepy Thompson Tournament.
Maret had an impressive opening round victory against Trinity Episcopal School from Richmond, and their team was led by their 6’8” power forward who also happens to be a Yale commit. Early in the game, Maret seemed to have their way with the Maroon, and with a 12-5 deficit EHS was forced to call a timeout; the teamchanged defenses, moving to a match-up zone, and this stifled the Maret offense. Episcopal also began to find a rhythm from the perimeter, and the tide of the game quickly changed. The Maroon scored the final nine points of the quarter to take a 14-12 lead. The Maroon started strong in the second quarter, and quickly forced a Maret timeout. The offensive barrage from EHS continued, and at the halftime break, Episcopal led Maret 37-22.

Although the Maroon struggled in the third quarter in the first-round, it was just the opposite in the semifinals: They increased the lead during the third and fourth quarters behind some stellar guard play. Episcopal was able to shoot 52% from the floor in the game, and held Maret to 40%. The team shot just under 80% from the free throw line, so their efficiency rating for the game was solid. Once again, all healthy players saw action in the final quarter, and the Maroon secured a victory and another trip to the championship game. The final score was EHS 81, Maret 52.
