Maroon Squash Quiets Blue Storm

The boys varsity squash team held their home opener at the Goodman Squash Courts against MASO league rivals, Mercersburg Academy.
Coming off of a tough loss over the weekend, the Maroon were eager to prove their worth against another good opponent. Match play began with the odd ladder players on court.  In fairly quick succession, Will Riddle '19, Andrew Kraut '21 Hansen Ogden '22, and Case Sylvester '21 all recorded resounding wins. Even ladder players picked up where the odds left off: Harrision Green '21 was first in this group to win, and he clinched victory for the team; then Charlie Teeters '20 and Luke Mascatello '19 added to the tally. No. 1 Thomas Williamson '19 finished out the day with a strong showing (winning in four games), and demonstrated why he'll be among the best in the league. Episcopal also had exhibition wins from Thomas Dudley '21, Killian Vetter '20, and George Eberle '19.

The #2's match was a sea-saw battle of wills that came to boil for the fifth and last game. Mascatello had demonstrated grit and athleticism throughout the match, but fell behind early for the final push; the points began to get away from him, and in a blink, the score was 9-3 (in favor of the Blue Storm player). A Mercersburg treatment timeout occurred, and Mascatello gathered his focus; when he re-entered the court, he methodically chipped away and erased the deficit. Rallies lasted longer than most seen at the high school level, and when the final shot fell, Mascatello was the victor.
