Junior Basketball Sustains Loss Against St. Albans
Despite their loss, the boys had their best game of the season.
They were out in front by a score of 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. Jack Hines '21 started things off with a great drive to the hoop for a nice layup, and followed up with a clutch three point shot. Jackson Bauer '21 quickly followed with a three of his own, and Stern Cohen '21 displayed quickness and agility in one of the most impressive plays of the season for two points at the buzzer. The boys managed solid defense and things looked promising.
Unfortunately, in the second quarter, St. Albans rallied back into the game with strong offensive play. Andrew Caslow '21 started the quarter off for Maroon with a great layup, but that was all the team could muster, while St. Albans went on a 13-2 run. The score after the first half was St. Albans 22, Episcopal 12.
The boys kept the game closer in the third quarter. Cohen came alive with six points, and Jason Gibson '21 looked strong adding four. St. Albans stayed solid, and the Bulldogs were up by a score of 34-20 at the end of the third.
The boys picked up their defensive play in the fourth quarter. They rallied for seven points, and held the Dogs to 5. Will Sternberg '21 came into the game and added a crucial layup to start the quarter. Thomas Gibert '21 followed with a bucket. Kartik Singh '20 sank two free throws at the line, and Jack Hines '21 hit a freethrow. At one point the boys were within eight, but the Bulldogs came out on top, 42-27.
