Maroon Misses Stone Ridge by a Hair
Remembering the team's overtime loss a couple weeks ago, they were eager to host Stone Ridge on Thursday evening.
The contest opened up with a confident trifecta from Lexi Weger '18, followed by a powerful post move from classmate Maya Goree '18. On the defensive end, Episcopal applied a stifling man defense that rattled the opponent, only allowing eight points in the second stanza; however, the well ran dry offensively- Weger's three pointer was the only points registered in the quarter. Despite struggling on offense, the team was still within striking distance at the half, with Stone Ridge ahead 18-15.
In the second half, the Maroon poured out their hearts onto the basketball court. EHS continued to roll offensively, finding one another under the hoop and finishing offensive rebounds. The bench erupted when Emma Jones '18 stepped in for an incredible charge, and it seemed as if the momentum had shifted permanently in favor of the Maroon. Stone Ridge wouldn't back down, however; the Gators netted timely three-pointers down the stretch, and ultimately snuck away with a 46-44 victory.
