Boys Junior Basketball Starts Strong Against Saint John Paul The Great
The boys junior basketball team had a solid start against Saint John Paul the Great.
Jack Hines '21 started strong by driving to the hole for two points. Jackson Bauer '21 had a few nice drives and earned a point from a free throw. Thomas Gibert'21 hit a free throw. Stern Cohen '21 had a great steal, going coast to coast for two points, and Hines finished the quarter with a nice three pointer off the glass. Saint John Paul led Maroon by a score of 15-9 at the close of the first quarter.
Maroon struggled to generate offense in the second quarter, and Saint John Paul picked up the pace. Bauer and Hines each had a bucket, and SS Singh '21 helped out with a free throw. Saint John Paul led the quarter 13-5, and the score at halftime was 28-14.
In the third quarter, Bauer had a bucket, and multiple attempts at the line with one free throw. Jason Gibson '21 had a bucket, and Andrew Caslow '21 went to the line to pick up a point. Saint John Paul won the third quarter 18-6, and led the game by a score of 36-20 going into the fourth.
The boys came alive in the fourth quarter and finished the game strong! They won the fourth quarter by a score of 12-10. Gibson scored four points, and Cohen put forth a great effort, and helped carry the team. He went to the line and picked up a point, made a nice jumper for two, had an excellent steal and went coast to coast for two, and finished with a beautiful three. The final score was Saint John Paul 46, EHS 32.
