Girls Varsity Basketball Keeps Georgetown Day At Bay

The Maroon suited up against Georgetown Day School Friday evening and earned a convincing 46-29 win, their first divisional victory since moving up to the ISL AA.
EHS made it clear from the tip that they would defend their home court with vigor. Sharing the ball exceptionally well offensively, Episcopal nabbed an early 11-2 lead after five different players knocked down big shots. Dymin Gerow '20 was especially deadly from the perimeter and used her quickness on the perimeter to slash effortlessly through the paint. Sophie Singletary '18 capped the first quarter with a buzzer-beating three pointer to give the home team a 20-5 lead. Despite her position as a post player, captain Erin Phillips '18 orchestrated the offense by recording three of her five assists in the first half alone. This team-first play confounded GDS, and the Maroon walked into the locker room at halftime up 28-8.

The second half was more of the same, and the staff was pleased to see a continued commitment to defense, rebounding, and team basketball. Catie Wood '19 showed poise at the shooting guard position, sinking free throws and perimeter jumpers to help the Maroon extend their lead. Emma Jones '18 picked up where Phillips left off and dished out five assists of her own in the second half. Anna Morris '20 was a monster on defense, wreaking havoc with her pressure and tenacity on the ball. At the game's conclusion, EHS found themselves on the winning side of a 46-29 score.
