The DMV is a hotbed for girls' basketball talent, and Georgetown Visitation entered Thursday night's contest ranked #7 in the area. The Maroon had prepared all week for this mental and physical test and were excited to compete against this truly upper-echelon team.
Right from the tipoff, the Cubs demonstrated why they were one of the top teams in the country. EHS struggled to advance the ball past half court against Visitation's stifling pressure. Visitation also took advantage of Episcopal's slow defensive rotations, netting layup after layup. At the end of the first half, the team found themselves behind 43-13.
The staff refocused the group in the locker room, stressing the importance of playing without fear, giving your best effort, and playing as a team. Undaunted by the point deficit, the Maroon fought back fiercely in the final two stanzas, outscoring Visitation in both and holding them to 22 points the rest of the way. Despite falling to the Cubs by a score of 65-40, the team remained positive about the potential learning experience this contest provided.
