Girls Varsity Basketball Goes 2-1 in Bullis Holiday Tournament
The weekend culminated with a commanding win over a very athletic group from Wilson High School.
While the Tigers jumped out to an early first quarter lead, the Maroon remained patient on offense, Ryan Shepherd '21 was sensational from the point guard position, creating offensive opportunities with her tenacious on-ball defense and stepping up with confidence on the perimeter. Sister Kailyn Shepherd '19 also proved herself a force to be reckoned with, weaving in and out of defenders as if they were cones in a drill. Additionally, the squad saw strong defensive performances from Dymin Gerow '20 and Lexi Weger '18 in the first half as the two forced Wilson players into turnovers and bad shots. Mary Ives Giblin '20 asserted herself as a playmaker, not only knocking down an important three-pointer, but also pulling down several key offensive rebounds.
With a comfortable 28-17 lead entering the third quarter, the Tigers staged a frightening comeback in the opening minutes of the half to pull within five. The coaching staff called a quick time out to refocus the Maroon on committing to defense and rebounding, which would prove quite beneficial; Episcopal unleashed a scoring barrage for which Wilson had no answer in the final eight minutes of play. Poised and resilient, EHS ran away with a convincing 53-37 victory.
