Boys Varsity Basketball Wins Semifinals

The boys varsity basketball team's first set of games were played in the Sleepy Thompson Tournament. Their semifinal matchup was against Glenelg Country School from Maryland.
Glenelg is a disciplined and well-coached team that has more of a presence in the paint, and they play more of a half-court style of basketball. Episcopal’s defensive pressure and transition offense once again set the tone for the game. The Maroon sprinted out to a 22-8 lead after the first quarter of play, and the team played with terrific energy. The second quarter was a different experience for our team. Physical fatigue resulted in some questionable decisions on the court, and our fast-paced style of play seemed to catch up with us just before halftime. The Maroon scored a season-low in points for a quarter (9), but fortunately we held Glenelg to only six points in the period. Episcopal led 31-14 at the intermission.

EHS was able to reclaim their edge in the third quarter, although the minutes seemed to be piling up for the starting unit. The team built the lead to eighteen points by the end of the third period, but Glenelg showed signs of improvement against the Maroon zone defense. In the final quarter, the teams played pretty even basketball for the first five minutes. In the final three minutes of the game, Glenelg capitalized on some errors from Episcopal, and they were able to have their best scoring output of the evening. Glenelg had trimmed the Maroon lead, but they would get no closer than the final margin of twelve points. Episcopal moved to 2-0 on the season with a 61-49 victory.
