The Maroon hosted Potomac in the ISL tournament quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. EHS knew they were facing a strong opponent in the Panthers and would need to keep their composure throughout the contest.
Potomac got on the board first, off a breakaway that started in on their half of the field. The Maroon had controlled most of the play from the start so they had a renewed sense of urgency to get a goal of their own. After many offensive opportunities, Eleanor Winants ‘18 put EHS on the board from a direct shot off an offensive corner, with the assist from Erin Phillips ‘18. A few minutes before the half, Phillips got a goal of her own to put the Maroon ahead.
Episcopal regrouped at halftime and knew they needed their best effort to finish out the game. They had many opportunities to take a commanding lead but couldn’t find the back of the cage. Potomac was relentless in their attack, and the Maroon attempted to hold strong. WIth just over ten minutes remaining, the Panthers evened the score. After putting sustained pressure on the Potomac defense, Winants scored her second goal of game and put Episcopal ahead for good. Halsey Ziglar ‘19 finished the day with 14 saves.
