Varsity Field Hockey Seeks to Regroup for Tournament

The Maroon hosted state rival St. Catherine’s on Saturday afternoon.
They anticipated a strong effort out of the Saints and were prepared to work together and fight as a unit.

The visitors got on the board early, scoring about eight minutes into the game. They added to their lead off a penalty corner a few minutes later. The Maroon regrouped and put pressure on the Saints over the next fifteen minutes of play. After a few defensive breakdowns, St. Catherine’s put two more goals on the board going into halftime.

The Maroon were determined to set the tone coming out of halftime and picked up their pace of play. They focused on accurate passing, cohesive defense and constant communication. After many chances, they got on the board with a goal from Eleanor Winants ‘18 off a penalty corner, with the assist going to Erin Phillips ‘18. EHS was unable to cut into the lead again and Halsey Ziglar ‘19 finished the game with 11 saves.

The Saints beat the Maroon by a score of 4-1. Episcopal is turning their focus to the ISL tournament next week, with their first game scheduled for Thursday, November 2.
