Girls Varsity Tennis Takes Down Stone Ridge
The girls’ varsity tennis team got back on the winning track this week, with a hard-fought win against Stone Ridge.
This was an important AA contest which always brings tough competition. The girls got off to a quick start in all four singles matches, but Stone Ridge would simply not go away, and climbed back in all of them, at one point leading in three of the four matches by a slim margin. The doubles were similar, with two matches in jeopardy. Junior captain Lilly Whitner ’19 got The Maroon started in the win column with her 10-2 victory at #4 singles, followed by Sam Fanning ’19 and Eve Mazlish ’21 at #2 doubles with a 10-3 win. Every other contest was in limbo. Lily Dolan ’20 brought the Maroon a step closer with a 10-6 win at #3 singles, taking the final four games. Maddie Blalock ’19 and Olivia Armfield ’20 won the clinching point at #3 doubles with a very close 10-7 result. Our 5th and final point came at #1 singles, where captain Gracie Hughes ’19 played a gutsy, high quality match to bring home a 10-8 win! A solid team victory which gave us our 2nd AA win for the season, and gears us up as we prepare for Friday’s Seminary Hill Cup match against the Saints. Nice work girls’ varsity tennis!
