The Girls' Varsity Soccer team was able to shake off the challenges of three prior road matches and hand ISL AA division side Stone Ridge a solidly contested match.
Within the first 15 minutes, the visiting side was dangerous in the EHS defensive third, and the tempo was changed significantly as forward Kyara McDowell '19 was able to convert a penalty kick for the first home side goal. What followed was one of the team's most powerful displays of controlled counter attacking soccer that overwhelmed the Stone Ridge defense and midfield. Shortly after the first goal, Isabelle Holt '18 received a ball at the Stone Ridge 18-yard line and turned quickly followed by a left footed volley past the goalkeeper. The score held at 2-0 at the half time whistle.
The visiting Gators came out full force in the 41st minute, scoring a stunner off of an EHS defensive lapse. In need of an insurance goal, Holt struck again as she stripped a ball from the Stone Ridge center back to take on the goalkeeper. Holt calmly slipped the ball in to the lower left corner. Both teams made great efforts at keeping momentum in to the last 15 minutes. EHS was unable to convert several chances unfortunately, but held on to the lead in this solid team victory. Of note was the outstanding play of central midfielder Logan Tyler '19, and wing midfielders Lindsey Harrison '19 and Neely Holt '20.
