The Episcopal High School Girls' Varsity Soccer squad tallied their first victory in a road battle versus AA division opponent National Cathedral School.
The entire team showed immense heart and determination in this program benchmark. Within three minutes of the opening whistle, EHS made its mark on the contest with a precise overlap combination from Claire Boehm '20 that found Sophie Singletary '18 in front of the net. As the first half heated up, a skilled and relentless NCS offense kept the back line under pressure for a full 40 minutes. When half time was called, the score held at 1-0.
With one of the more challenging leads in the beautiful game (1-0), the team took to the pitch with an adjusted game plan: shut down the opponent's offense. What followed was one of the more solid efforts thus far: The midfield and back line solidified by denying turns and passes from NCS while supporting a consistent counterattack. In the 55th minute, the Maroon played a set of quick one-touch combinations up the right flank that ended with a connection between Isabelle Holt '18 and Noe Boggan '21 for the second goal of the match. The back four of Claire Boehm '20 and Alli Boehm '20, Trudy Holmes '19, and Lilly Wilcox '18 were able to deny all attempts on net in the final minutes. The only tally by the home side came off of a penalty kick late in the match, but EHS held on to the 1-goal margin to the final whistle. Also of note was the commanding presence of goalkeepers Lindy Moss '19 and Olivia Morton '19.
