Varsity Field Hockey Scores Six in Opening Victory
The Maroon opened their season with a victory at home against Saint John Paul the Great.
The scoring started early for The Maroon as Eleanor Winants ‘18 ignited things just three minutes into the contest. Saint John Paul the Great answered just over 8 minutes later to tie up the score. From there, The Maroon began to capitalize on their many offensive opportunities with Erin Phillips ‘18 and Winants finding the back of the net before the end of the first half.
The second half started out well for The Maroon as Margaret Collett ‘18 scored her first goal of the season followed by Olivia Sokol ‘19 adding to the lead just three minutes later. Winants capped off her hat trick with a direct shot off a penalty corner to finish off the scoring. The Maroon were led by a strong offensive attack, totaling over 25 shots on goal throughout the contest. Halsey Ziglar ‘19 held strong in goal with 6 saves and, along with a steady defensive effort, did not allow a goal on any defensive penalty corners.
The Maroon secured the victory with a final score of 6-1.
