Tre Simmons '20 topped the field at the JV State Meet in the 1000-meter race in Richmond. Simmons also got the meet started in the first race of the day, the 4 x 800m, leading his teammates to another gold medal but in a much for closer finish. Chris Denning '19 and Ben Korkowski '19 put the Maroon on top and Simmons got the baton around solo to hand off to Meron Tekeste '19. As has become tradition in this meet, the final few meters came down to a battle between Episcopal and Woodbery Forest School. "Rubbin in Racin'" in Tekeste's books and he worked through some tight angles to take the win for the Maroon to start off the day's championship meet.
Jon "JG" Grunau '19 was another huge highlight of the meet. After patiently waiting out some injury issues through the first half of the season, Grunau slowly worked his up to the type of form that would grant him a spot on the team traveling to Richmond. Coach Reynolds had him ready prepared, as he flung the heavy ball 31 feet 9 inches a significant personal best and 6th place overall to add to the team point total.
Tyler Bryan '19 was the best of the rest, taking runner-up spot in the 300-meter race and running a personal record, followed closely by Henry Sergenian '19 who placed third overall. James Dixon '19 also saved his best race for last, running another personal best time to finish second place by .1 seconds in the 500-meters. Ben Korkowski '19 matched his personal best time in the 1600-meters to place third in one of the largest fields of the day.
