Saints take a 2-0 victory despite numerous scoring opportunities for the boys JV soccer team.
The boys junior varsity soccer team faced a challenging week last week. St. Stephens proved a solid opponent. The game was even as the first half approached an end.
Personnel changes in our starting lineup required more adjustments, and a modified formation. Collin Hwang and Jinsoo Kim continue to be a speedy combination on offense, consistently threatening other defenses. Herbert Gray was back in the mix and provided great structure and support at the holding midfield position. He did an excellent job switching the field helping the Maroon generate attacking chances.
Jack Light, once again, provided a solid performance for almost 90 minutes. His reliable, dependable play is proving to be a backbone of the JV squad. John Woodward, fresh off an injury to his heel, saw significant minutes on Wednesday and is playing an important role in solidifying our back line. Stuart Thorton earned his first start of the season and played some of his best soccer thus far. The team welcomed back Thomas Grier who continues to be a key player in our defense and is finding ways to improve his play with each new game. Collin Fitzpatrick played the entire game in the net. Collin is learning quickly and is proving an exciting player to watch as the season progresses.
Despite a solid effort, the Saints went up 1-0 with a minute remaining in the first half. Episcopal fought back and generated significant attacking chances in the second half, but simply could not find the back of the net. Unfortunately, the Saints found the net again after a defensive breakdown late in the second half with six minutes to go. Final score, 2-0 Saints.
