The St. Albans Bulldogs took a bite and kept biting, with a 7-0 victory in boys JV soccer on September 30.
The squad was back at it on Friday night, this time facing a formidable opponent, the Bulldogs of St. Albans. This was the team's toughest challenge of the season, and the Bulldogs' lightning fast offensive prowess and ability to move the ball quickly proved a tall order for the Maroon.
They scored a flurry of goals in the first half within a 10-minute span midway into the period. The team started to settle in and adjust their play, but the Bulldogs were up 4-0 at halftime. Maroon took the field in the second half, determined to play the game a little closer. Collin Fitzpatrick really started to come into his own in the net with much more decisive play, earning at least three key saves in the half.
Maroon suffered another flurry of goals sparked by a penalty kick for the Bulldogs in the 40th minute on a tough play by Miles Thompson. Miles saw significant minutes in the back line on Friday night. His speed and presence helped solidify our back line, and the team looks forward to seeing Miles grow into a more defensive role. Despite the team's best efforts, St. Albans netted two more goals before the end of the game. Final score, 7-0.
