The Boys' Junior Varsity Soccer team is back on top with a 4-3 record with a win against Bullis on Oct. 5, in a tough-fought grudge match on field conditions that offered a fair share of surprises.

Michael Grogan '19 scored all four of the team's goals: two tap-in goals and two beautiful shots. Michael was certainly not alone yesterday. The team saw excellent play through and through with a modified starting lineup that the team is likely to continue as we settle into a mid-season rhythm. Grogan's first goal came off a stellar pass from Collin Hwang '19 just two minutes into the match. Eight minutes later, Bullis came barreling down the field on a bomb of a punt from their goalkeeper.

The Maroon were adjusting to a short and narrow field, and the back line got caught in a foot race to the goal. The game was quickly tied one to one.

Jinsoo Kim '18 created a number of attacking chances. Twenty-one minutes into the first half, Kim relentlessly pressed the defense on three consecutive shots--the last of which was finally deflected to Grogan's foot for a tap-in goal to put Maroon up two to one at halftime. Miles Thompson '18 started for the first time at center back. His speed and decisive play helped stop a number of threats from the Bulldogs. Just a few short minutes into the second half, Bullis came barreling down the field again and scored on a scrappy goal to tie the game two to two.

Five minutes later, Grogan was back at it and answered with a beautiful goal from a corner kick assisted by Jack Light. The Maroon scored again with ten minutes left in the game off of a booming assist from goalkeeper Collin Fitzpatrick '19. The starting line got a rest for the remainder of the game, allowing the entire team to see some minutes. Stuart Thornton '18, Ryan Grajewski '18, and Scotty Marshall '20 held down the fort on defense. Archer Staunton '19 had a great run in the mid-field while Alex Allahar '19 and Thomas Williamson '19 had some nice attacking chances.

The Dogs were able to sneak one more goal in off of a flukey ball into the box that left Fitzpatrick blinded by the setting sun. Final score Maroon 4, Bulldogs 3.
