Boys Varsity LAX Headed to Semifinals
The boys varsity lacrosse team improved to 11-7 on the season with a 7-4 VISAA quarterfinal win over St. Anne's Belfield.
John McKee '20 and Ricky Miezan '18 got EHS out of the gates quickly as a designed play off of the face-off resulted in a quick 1-0 lead just five seconds into the game. Jared Andreala '20 and Jack Lee '20 also scored in the first quarter to push the Maroon lead to 3-0.
The story of the game was the outstanding play of the Episcopal defense. Jack Niven '18, Coleman Marlatt '19, Christian Storch '20, Michael Grogan '19, Ben Lee '20, Jack Kelly '19, and Tyler Bryan '19 played strong team defense throughout the game and limited STAB to their lowest goal output of the season. When STAB did penetrate the defense, Miles Thompson '19 was there to make the save as he made 13 key stops on the day.
Finlay MacKnight '20 scored an important goal with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter to push the EHS lead back to two and Will Cory '19 added two fourth-quarter goals to give the Maroon a four goal lead with less than 8 minutes in the game.
Chad Calderwood '20 and McKee controlled possession by winning 9/13 face-offs.
