Maroon Downs Holy Child in Three

The girls varsity softball team earned their first win of the season on Friday against Holy Child in three innings.
Tiffany Stowers '20 pitched 2.2 innings, allowing no earned runs and no walks. She was responsible for every out of the three-inning game, with eight strikeouts and a caught fly ball. Lilly Wilcox '18 came in to pitch in the third inning and faced 10 batters. She kept her cool under pressure and gave her best effort. This was Lilly’s first time pitching in a game this year, and only had two practice sessions earlier in the week.

EHS did a great job putting runners on base and scoring runs. They were selective at the plate, drawing a total of 11 walks, and were able to put together thirteen hits as a team. There were several offensive highlights to note:
  • Lilly Wilcox '18 went 4-4 with two singles, a double and a triple;
  • Tiffany Stowers '20 showed off her left-handed slapper skills with two well-placed singles;
  • Allison Duenas '20 produced two perfectly placed bunts, one of which was a single, and the other a sacrifice bunt to move a runner into scoring position;
  • Nicole Carino '19 had a single and a well hit triple to center field; and
  • Flora French '21, Melanie Hoffmann '18, Madi Register '18, Sofi Sowden '20 and Natasha Wanjiru '20 each had a single in the game, with Flora’s hit bringing in the final winning run of the game.
This was the first time Amy Ma '21 and Helen Chen '21 faced a pitcher in a game situation, and they both made it on base with a walk. A total of 22 runs were scored collectively by just about every player on the team. Helen Chen '21, Allison Duenas '20, Judy Liu '18, Amy Ma '21, Madi Register '18, and Sofi Sowden '20 each scored a run. Nicole Carino '19, Barrett Carney '19, Kayla Murphy '18, Tiffany Stowers '20, and Halsey Ziglar '19, each scored two runs. Melanie Hoffmann '18 and Lilly Wilcox '18 led the team with three runs each. The final score was 22-7.
