Bulldogs Beat Maroon on Home Court

The varsity girls basketball team experienced a 59-40 loss to the Bulldogs of Bullis Friday evening.
The first quarter was outstanding for the Maroon, as they held the visiting team to just seven points. EHS used a balanced offensive attack to frustrate the Bulldogs, starting with an offensive rebound and put-back from Maya Goree '18 and layup from Dymin Gerow '20. Lexi Weger '18 extended the lead further with a trifecta and pair of free throws to end the quarter. Refusing to back down, Bullis netted back-to-back three pointers to start the second stanza and shift momentum in their favor. The Maroon struggled to defend the hot shooting of their opponent and fell behind 30-17 at the half.

After discussing the importance of proper closeouts and rotations on defense, the home team was ready for the second half. Goree sank a deep three to open the half and found Weger for two on the next possession. Episcopal continued to confuse their opponent with their zone defense and forced several turnovers in the third. Although the team came within striking distance on several occasions, they could not stop the talented Bulldogs from walking away with a victory.

While the team has suffered a number of injuries and illnesses in the last week, the girls remain supportive of one another and excited for the last few weeks of the season.
