Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to No. 2-Ranked Team in Virginia

The girls varsity basketball team faced off against the number two team in the state, Trinity Episcopal School.
The Maroon fought fiercely in the first half, embracing the game as an opportunity to compete and get better against an immensely talented squad. Dymin Gerow '20 was a maniac on the defensive end, frustrating the Trinity players with her ball pressure and anticipating passing lanes for quick steals. Mary Ives Giblin, fearless against players who were at least a foot taller, used her quickness and intelligence to secure crucial rebounds and limit the opponent's offensive opportunities. Although the Maroon struggled on the offensive end against the defensive tenacity of the Titans, they found themselves within striking distance at the half, 24-12.

That's when Trinity Episcopal demonstrated why they're one of the top programs in the state. The home team came out with fury in the third quarter, unleashing a scoring barrage that the Maroon could not combat. After the Titans recorded 28 points in the period, Episcopal faced a large deficit to overcome. Undaunted, seniors Maya Goree '18 and Erin Phillips '18 showcased tremendous heart and leadership, sparking a run in the fourth quarter that ignited hope in their fellow teammates. Catie Wood '19 showed toughness on the interior, coming off the bench to rip down two consecutive defensive boards. Despite outscoring their opponent 10-7 in the final stanza, though, EHS was unable to claw its way back, and ultimately fell by a score of 59-34.
