The girls varsity squash team squared off against National Cathedral School (NCS), the newest addition to the Mid-Atlantic Squash Organization for high school squash.
The match was played at Squash on Fire (SOF), a new club which only opened a few months ago in Downtown Washington, DC and one which features eight courts and a state-of-the-art live electronic scoring system. Updated game scores on television-size screens, posted above the front wall of each squash court, make it easier for all spectators to follow players and matches in progress. At the end of the day, the Maroon continued its excellence and triumphed 8-1, 12-1 in overall matches.
Playing matches with a white squash ball, a new experience for a few of our team members in the two championship courts did not deter anyone from the task at hand. Karla Domingues ’20 (#2), Mac Faughnan ’19 (#2), Sabrina Teope ’18 (#4), Lindsey Harrison ’19 (#5), Jonesy Wilbanks ’19 (#6), Lilly Whitner ’19 (#7), and Margaret Collett ’18 (#9) ensured that the team was off to a fast start. All won their matches by comfortable 3-0 margins.
Trudy Holmes ’19 (#8), showing steady improvement in each match she plays, lost only one game before winning 3-1. Isabelle Holt ’18 (#10), Janie Stillwell ’18 (#11), Lily Dolan ‘20 (#12), and Lilly Schmactenberger ’19 (#13) coasted to easy 3-0 victories over their NCS opponents. As is customary, Nicole Carino ’19 (#1) played the final match of the day. Coming up against a tough opponent, she put up a good fight before coming up short 0-3.
