Maroon Shows Strength at Weekend Meet

The weekend of January 19-20 was a busy one for the Maroon & Black track and field squad.
A group of young, up-and-coming freshman and sophomores joined some older teammates who needed some race experience and traveled to Orange, VA for one of Woodberry Forest’s competitions. With six schools contesting this meet, it was a great chance to get some racing experience.

Cameron Robinson '19 got the Maroon off to a great start with a personal best in the 800-meters to lead off the third-place finishing 4 x 800-meter team. Chris Denning '19 closed on the anchor in a personal best as well. Tre Simmons '20 added to a strong day for the distance group with a strong Runner Up finish in the 1000-meter event in personal record time.

Christian Storch '20, Finlay MacKnight '20, Wyatt Singletary '20 and Jared Andreala '20 held down the relays for the Maroon combining for the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400-meter events.

Janil Cohen '21 and Olivia Sokol '19 were the work horses for the day. Both competed in three events in a very tight timeframe. First up was the 55-meter dash where both ran personal best times. Cohen came back in the 4 x 200-meter relay and Sokol took a shot at the 300-meters where she and Cohen, again, ran personal best times over this distance.
