Maroon Falls Short at Bullis

Despite the girls' varsity basketball team's valiant efforts on Tuesday afternoon, the team fell to top-ranked Bullis School on the road.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the opening minutes and were clearly prepared to defend their home court. Taking advantage of missed defensive rotations, Bullis netted several uncontested shots to secure an early 9-3 lead. It wasn't until midway through the first quarter that EHS was able to find its offensive flow. Erin Phillips '18 executed a beautiful pass to teammate Mary Ives Giblin '19 slashing through the paint for a quick bucket. Moments later, Kailyn Shepherd '19 sank two from the charity stripe to pull the team within three. The second quarter played out similarly, as the two teams exchanged baskets and wrestled for the lead. At the half, the Bulldogs held on to a slim 21-19 lead.

While the team continued to bring energy and focus in the third stanza, the fourth proved difficult for the Maroon. Despite having solid looks at the rim, the team was unable to capitalize in the final minutes. Bullis, conversely, hit their offensive stride, hitting contested three-pointers and shots in the paint with contact. Despite the valiant comeback attempt, the Maroon fell short and dropped the contest 58-45. With the loss, the team falls to 8-4 on the year.
