Girls Varsity Basketball Falls to Flint Hill

The Episcopal girls' basketball team suffered a tough loss to their ISL rival Flint Hill School on Friday evening on their home court. The squad now stands at 7-2 on the year as they head into another challenging week of league play.
It took a quarter for the Maroon to shake off the holiday cobwebs, but they eventually returned to their disciplined, tenacious ways in the second stanza. Kailyn Shepherd '19, relentless with her quick first step, helped keep the home team with in striking distance with several athletic finishes around the rim. They then used a balanced offensive attack ignited by Sophie Singletary '18 to slowly chip away at the Huskies' lead. Lexi Weger '18 was a cornerstone of the team's defense, swatting away shot after shot underneath the hoop, and a Singletary layup at the end of the half gave the team a 24-23 edge going into the locker room.

EHS was able to extend the lead further in the third period, but the pesky Huskies never quit. Late in the game, the Maroon seemed to collectively run out of gas, missing open shots and making uncharacteristic mistakes on defense. A late rally by Flint Hill proved insurmountable for the home team, and the visitors walked away with a 56-49 victory.
