Girls Varsity Basketball Bounces Back to Win Second Round in Tournament
The girls varsity basketball team faced Mercersburg Academy in their second round of the Bullis Holiday Tournament on Saturday morning.
Mercersburg was visibly shaken by the stifling defensive pressure applied right from the opening tip. Exceptional efforts in transition by Maya Goree '18 and Lexi Weger '18 proved deadly, while the on-ball defense of Ryan Shepherd '21 completely befuddled the Blue Storm. EHS jumped out to a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
In this contest, the coaching staff especially impressed by the energy and effort of our bench players. Guards Mary Ives Giblin '19, Catie Wood '19, and Nora Huffines '20 were incredible sparks, executing beautifully on both ends of the floor and being aggressive with the ball in their hands. Forwards Erin Phillips '18 and Emma Jones '18 locked down defensively, and were part of a group that gave up zero points in the fourth quarter. Episcopal left not a shred of doubt about which team would walk away with the win, finishing the game ahead 49-11.
