On Saturday afternoon in Centennial Gymnasium, the team took a break from studying for exams to face The Heights in a non-conference match-up.
The Heights is always a well-coached team that plays with great determination, and they exhibit terrific sportsmanship. It was a snowy afternoon in Alexandria, but that did not stop our community from coming to the Hershey Athletics Center to support both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams.
The Maroon jumped out early on the visitors from Potomac, Md., and the team never looked back. Strong play on the defensive end of the court made up for some disjointed offensive possessions for EHS. Eventually the team found its rhythm on both ends of the floor, and the team led at halftime by a score of 39-14. The third quarter was a more competitive eight minutes of basketball, and Episcopal was able to use several different lineups in the period. In the final quarter of the game, The Maroon had some terrific contributions from the reserves. Highlights included some impressive play in the paint by Tristan Bounds '20; three-point field goals by Jack Kelly '19 and Jett Lyerly '19; two “big-time” finishes by David Rondeau '20; a strong finish off the glass for Joe Mutscheller '18; and a rebounding clinic by Bryan Peterson '18 and Anderson Glover '18.
Episcopal defeated The Heights by a final score of 72-36. The team improves to 6-0, and they now face a new challenge: exams! At the end of this week the team will participate in the Bullis Holiday Classic before returning home for the Holiday break.
