Varsity Field Hockey held a close game with state rival Foxcroft, holding out until the end for yet another win.
On Saturday, the Maroon held off an initial offensive push by the visitors and got on the board first, with Jonesy Wilbanks '19 scoring off an assist by Olivia Sokol '19. Foxcroft answered about ten minutes later with a goal of their own. With time expiring in the first half, Wilbanks broke the tie and put EHS ahead during an offensive penalty corner.
The two teams were locked in an intense battle, exchanging scoring chances throughout the beginning of the second half. The Maroon broke through, with Missy Brandt '20 tallying her first goal of the year, with the assist from Caroline Ullrich '20. Foxcroft answered a few minutes later and cut the Maroon lead to one. The last few minutes of the contest were dominated by an intense attack by the visitors, who earned an offensive penalty corner as time expired. Foxcroft was able to break through a strong Maroon defense and sent the game into overtime.
To start the extra session, the Maroon were eager to earn the victory and had a few chances to do so, but the defensive play of Foxcroft prevented any scoring. The teams went back and forth for several minutes until Mary Ives Giblin '19 won the ball in the backfield, carried it through the midfield, and passed to Sokol. Sokol then broke away from the defense, dodged the goalie, and scored the winning goal.
