Girls Varsity Lacrosse Holds Down STAB

The team was ready to avenge a three-goal loss to STAB last year. STAB finished the 2016 season ranked third in the state, so EHS knew that this would be an important test for them coming off of some earlier lopsided games this spring. The game proved to be a battle from the first whistle as STAB was the first to get on the board a little over five minutes into play. EHS would score three goals in the next five minutes to take a 3-1 lead, but STAB answered back with two quick goals to tie the game at 3-3 with 14:21 left in the first half. The remainder of the half was a testament to the incredible play of the Episcopal defensive unit who held STAB scoreless. Episcopal scored three more goals of their own, including two in the final minute, to take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break. The girls came out of the break hungrier than before as they scored two more quick goals in the opening minute of the half to take a commanding 8-3 lead. The Episcopal team managed the lead over the remaining time as they continued to score goals at roughly three-minute intervals, continued to battle for loose 50-50 ground balls and draw controls, and maintained a high pressure zone defense that generated turnovers to get the ball back to the attacking end of the field.
